What is the Individual Investment Support Programme?

The Individual Investment Promotion Programme is a promotion programme of the NBank in Lower Saxony with subsidies from the European Union. The investment support is used to subsidise investment projects in Lower Saxony. The aim is to support the competitiveness and adaptability of the economy in structurally weak regions. The creation and safeguarding of training places and permanent jobs is essential for the approval of investment projects.

PSL Service Laboratory for contract measurements for petroleum, natural gas, inhibitors with new fume cup system of PSL Systemtechnik, Osterode am Harz, Germany

Which project is funded?

Expansion of the production site in Osterode am Harz

PSL invests in the future and NBank considers our investments to be worthy of support.

We are expanding our operations in the following areas:

  1.     The service laboratory is equipped with a new fume cupboard system and further measuring equipment.
  2.     The workstations in production are digitized and made more ergonomic.
  3.     The R&D department receives a database for the management of technical drawings.

The aim of these measures is, on the one hand, to expand our service laboratory for flow assurance extensively. On the other hand, we achieve faster access to data through digitalisation and the use of a database for technical drawings. This will enable us to continue to support our employees in their work.

Ultimately, we are extending our lead over our competitors and will continue to do everything in our power to manufacture the best product for our customers in the future.

What is low-threshold innovation promotion?

The Low-Threshold Innovation Promotion is a support programme of the NBank in Lower Saxony with grants from the European Union. Innovation funding is used to subsidise the company's own research and development projects aimed at new or improved marketable products or at the development and implementation of process and organisational innovations. The aim is to support the innovative strength and competitiveness of companies. Exceeding the company-related state of the art is essential for the approval of R&D projects.

Process optimization is part of the excellence strategy of PSL Systemtechnik, Osterode am Harz, Germany

Which project is funded?

Process innovation to improve the quality of high-tech laboratory equipment for the petroleum industry

PSL was the first company in Lower Saxony to receive approval for a process innovation.

The aim of the process innovation is to improve the quality of the products through the in-house development of systems for improved operational and organisational forms in the company.

The basis for our future company growth and the further assurance of the variety and quality of our products is the change of our existing processes and the establishment of a continuous transparency, so that e.g. new employees can be trained faster. In addition, production and quality assurance times are to be shortened. More and more suppliers are outsourcing their production to China or Eastern Europe, resulting in lower quality of purchased parts.

All efforts are aimed at continuously improving our processes in order to achieve an even higher quality of our products.

Zim Solo Federal funding for a hydrogen sulfide analyzer in bitumen, H2S analyzer, H2S analyser, PSL Systemtechnik, Osterode am Harz, Germany

What is Zim support?

The Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM) is a promotional programme at federal level. The ZIM subsidises demanding research and development projects that lead to new products. The aim is to sustainably support the innovative strength and competitiveness of companies. The technological innovation content and good market opportunities of the R&D projects funded are essential for approval.

Which project was funded?

Development of an H2S Analyzer for the determination of hydrogen sulfide in bitumen and heavy oils

PSL developed from a patented laboratory process an industrially applicable, transportable hydrogen sulphide tester, the H2S Analyzer.

The laboratory instrument measures the hydrogen sulphide content of bitumen and heavy oils for temperatures up to 200 °C. With this instrument, both dissolved and inherent (bound) hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is quantitatively analyzed for the first time in both the liquid and gas phases. A patented laboratory process was converted into an industrially usable laboratory device. This world first is used in quality assurance and occupational safety in the production process for bitumen manufacturers and processors, in refineries and in the petrochemical industry.

Contest participations

At irregular intervals we apply for competitions with our products or the entire company. So far, we've always clinched a podium position.

Preisträger Volksbank Innovationspreis 2017, Dr. Jens Pfeiffer, Rena Pfeiffer, PSL Systemtechnik, Osterode am Harz

For the development of the Cold Finger

Creative ideas and sustainable concepts are in demand at the Volksbank Innovation Award. This Future Prize is awarded every two years to visionary entrepreneurs in the region.

PSL has launched the Cold Finger as an in-house development to expand our portfolio with this standard measurement method in the area of flow assurance. The Cold Finger is a laboratory instrument that measures the wax content of crude oils.

We thought outside the box, turned away from conventional concepts and were able to revolutionize a common measuring method as a result. We questioned all technical solutions, e.g. in the area of temperature control and measuring station mounting and created added value for the customer through handling to sample use. Thanks to the distinctive modular structure, we can offer the customer a total of 27 possible combinations. An attractive design rounds off the concept.

Volksbank Innovation Award 2010, 2nd place for PSL Systemtechnik with the development of the Saphirglas-Rocking Cell, Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany

For the development of the Sapphire Glass Rocking Cell

Creative ideas and sustainable concepts are in demand at the Volksbank Innovation Award. This Future Prize is awarded every two years to visionary entrepreneurs in the region.

Saphirglas Rocking Cell RCS20: Vollautomatisches Laborgerät untersucht Gashydrate mit Anti-Agglomerants, kinetischen und thermodynamischen Inhibitoren, PSL Systemtechnik, Osterode am Harz, Germany

The Sapphire Rocking Cell RCS examines gas hydrates, kinetic gas hydrate inhibitors and anti-agglomomerants under deepwater conditions up to 340 bar. The sapphire glass test cells are completely transparent. The entire sample chamber can be viewed to closely observe the behaviour and structure of the gas hydrates formed. The experiments can also be recorded by camera. For the first time, it is possible to observe whether hydrates collect or compact at less turbulent points.

With the Sapphire Rocking Cell our customers save up to 50% of the development and test times compared to previously used test methods. The project costs are reduced accordingly. Meanwhile, the "Big 5" in flow assurance and leading researchers in this field are using our device.
